Can I tell you something I see in holistic practitioners all the time? Some of the most gifted and generous people I know, people who are genuinely so good at what they do, yet quietly believe they are not quite good enough yet.
They undercharge. They wait to feel ready before they put themselves out there. They assume everyone else must know more than they do. And underneath it all is a quiet question: who am I to do this?
If any of that feels familiar, stay with me, because Chinese medicine has something to say about it. And this is exactly the season for it.
Self-worth lives in the Metal element
We're in autumn now, the season of the Metal element. And Metal governs something that might surprise you: your sense of your own worth.
In Chinese medicine, the Metal element is where we hold truth. The ability to know your worth, to receive, to stand in your own truth without having to prove it. When Metal is strong, you value yourself honestly. When it's strained, that's where the self-doubt, the insecurity, and the comparing yourself to everyone else tend to creep in.
So if your self-worth has felt wobbly lately, don't stress, my friend. You're not alone. It's an invitation from the season to tend to your Metal.

Worth works like gold
Think about gold for a second. It's one of the most valuable things on earth, and here's what's interesting about it. You don't make gold more valuable by adding to it. Gold is refined by fire, by burning away everything that isn't gold, until only the pure thing is left.

That's how worth actually works. And it's very Metal, by the way. Metal is the element of refinement.
You don't become worthy by piling on more. More certifications, more hustle, more proof. Your worth is already in there, like gold in the ore. The work isn't manufacturing it. The work is burning away the doubt that's been covering it up.
And here's the good part. When you stop trying to earn your worth, you free up all that energy you've been spending to prove yourself. You get to pour it into actually growing instead. Not to finally become good enough, you already are, but because you get to keep becoming more of who you are. Your worth is the ground you build everything else on.
Try This
Here's a simple one for when the doubt feels loud. Take LU9, called Taiyuan, "the Great Abyss." It's on the inside of your wrist, at the crease, on the thumb side, in the little hollow where you'd feel your pulse. It's the source point of the Lung channel, which makes it a fortifying point, and the Lungs belong to the Metal element.

Apply a drop of frankincense, an oil long tied to worth and truth. Hold the point on both wrists, and take a few slow breaths. Let it settle in.
For the practitioners reading this: this is a lovely one to keep in your own pocket, for you and your clients.
You are already enough
So as you move through this season, I want you to hear this. You are not a project to fix. You are already enough, today, as you are. And from that place, you get to keep building the practice and the life you want.
That's the real work of autumn. Letting go of everything that was never you, so what's essential can finally be seen.
