Exploring a New Slow Living Lifestyle

Exploring a New Slow Living Lifestyle

it's been a minute since I connected with you, so let me explain why. And, what does a slow living lifestyle mean.... read on friend.

I know I'm not alone when I say this world feels turned upside down and chaotic right now and it's impacting um, well, everyone...

This past summer I set out on a cross-country road trip; I left Oregon on July 15th. It was my full intention to take you on this journey with me but I had a deep, deep gnawing in my gut to disconnect as much as possible from all things online. Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever felt like you need to just disconnect and unplug and quiet your mind and heart? I was getting that pull so strongly. As a trial, I even took the Facebook app off my phone and rarely did I make an appearance there, or any other social media platform. (by the way, it’s STILL off my phone, and I love it)

Stepping back for a few, has really helped me find some new clarity, some new ways of being, a new approach to life (on all levels, body, mind, spirit) and business, and quite frankly, I like it. Oh I am still doing my business, just a little differently. Prior to July 15th,  I was finding myself SO incredibly anxious when I popped onto any social media platform, but especially Facebook. My nervous system is very pleased with this decision. And, I am still working on it… a work in progress, always.

In the beginning of July, I was taking a walk to the local farmers market near me in Bend Oregon and thinking about a conversation I had with a friend of mine who said something about “slow dating”... We're both single ;-) I was thinking about this idea, or concept of slow dating.  What she meant about slow dating is really about taking your time to get to know someone, being really present and not in a rush. As I thought about slow dating, I thought… “ We should be slow living”. I paused when I said that, I literally stopped in my tracks and thought, “that's a thing” or that should be a thing, slow living and that's when things started shifting for me.

I quickly learned that slow living has actually been “a thing”, for quite a while, and there are several people who have written books on it mostly with regards to de-cluttering their home, minimalists as they say, living simply.

Then I thought, “what does it actually mean to me, slow living?”  let me share what came up or has been coming up for me with regards to the idea of slow living… Again, it’s evolving.

Slow living, simple living, minimalist, minimalism... All these Buzz words to me, are more than just some Zen home that's been decluttered ala Marie Kondo. While our environment in which we surround ourselves is indeed essential to a slow living lifestyle to me it's much more than that. As a matter of fact, it's more than:

  • Decluttering and simplifying your home
  • Eating organic
  • Meditating
  • Wearing flowy neutral organic hemp made clothing

it's more than:

  • who you spend time with
  • how you think
  • how you do business
  • how you speak
  • how you respond
  • how you spend and schedule your time,
  • where you live
  • what you listen to
  • what you read
  • what you watch
  • how you choose to view the world
  • your attitude
  • your attention
  • your spirituality
  • how you treat others
  • how you treat the environment

It's ALL of the things

It’s more than just doing less, to get or have more… As a matter of fact, it’s not about “having” or “getting” anything… It’s about experiencing… It's about Being.

In her book SLOW, simple living for a frantic world, Brooke McAlary shares what Slow Living enthusiast and author of Chasing Slow Erin Loechner states about slow living… Slow living doesn't look a certain way …”True living as erin says is the Curious mix of being prepared and being prepared to let go. Caring more and caring less, saying yes and saying no... It's about living in accordance with the important things in life and more specifically living in accordance with the important things in YOUR life. Cultivating self-awareness, letting go of the excess stuff in our homes, learning how to live mindfully, getting in touch with our personal values, and choosing which advice applies to OUR circumstances, happily releasing the ideas that don't fit our homes, families, jobs, or values. It's about life. The “living” Parts.

So, welcome to my new way of living, and being. And, if you’ve read this far, I am guessing that you’re resonating with some of this. Are you?

Needless to say, I have a lot more to say about living the slow living life, and creating a slow living business, because, how you do one thing, is how you do everything, you just can separate mind, body, spirit, relationships, business.

So, Do me a quick favor, let me know if any of this is resonating. I am ready to share tons of tips every week to help you create a more holistic slow living lifestyle that allows you to LIVE your best life!
