Build A Strong Foundation For Your Wellness Business

Build a Strong Foundation for Your Wellness Business

You would not build your house on sand. So, why would you build your wellness business without a solid foundation?

Hey, I'm Diane delReyes, a licensed Acupuncturist and business coach for holistic practitioners, creator of Leverage your Holistic Business Academy, and coming soon, Women in Wellness Rise and Thrive Academy... I am super excited about that.

I wanted to share with you some ideas for your business, especially I want you to start thinking about the concept of foundation in these ideas.

I feel that COVID-19 is taking us all by storm, and as we move into the 2021 New Year, it’s time to start challenging your thinking and you to start thinking about the clarity and structure of your business. And it also helps you create your business online as well, especially with the way the world is right now.

I want you to be in a position where you can create recurring income that you can count on while reaching people across the globe.  To help you do that, I’ve started the Leverage Your Holistic Business Academy based on what’s called the holistic five element effect. And the wood element is the element that is really about creating the foundation of your business. It’s the birth. The wood element represents birth. It’s the structure, planning and goals.

So, I want to talk to you about four really important things you should consider when you are thinking about your business - whether you’re just starting out, or whether you’re rebranding, or whether these are aspects you’ve never really considered as an acupuncturist or a therapist.

I’m not sure about you, but when I’d finished my Master’s degree, I felt that I was just thrown out into the business world and told to “go open your practice”. I did exactly that but I felt I was in over my head - I had no idea how to run a business and I sure had no idea about creating the foundation that was necessary to do so.

1. Cast Your Vision

The first thing I want to talk to you about in creating a foundation is casting your vision. What is the vision that you have for your business and your life - because the vision you have for your business will impact the way you live your life. You’re in the business of helping people and when you’re doing your job well, your clients will come and go, and you’ll continually look for referrals to keep going.

To succeed through this cycle you need to be really clear about the bigger picture of your vision.

What is the vision that you’re casting for yourself? What is your mission statement? What is the intention that you’re setting? For your business, it’s really important to understand this because when you have a vision, it’s an intention. It makes decisions easier because they’re aligned with your mission, your vision, and then you can get real clarity. People start to understand more about what it is you do as a business.

2. Know What Makes You Different

You are the secret sauce of your business.

There are a million acupuncturists, chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists. What makes you stand out? There’s only one thing and that is you. You are your secret sauce.

You might have the same training as the next therapist down the road, but nobody has the same experiences you have, the passions you have, the specific talents you have, the skills you have, the way you do business, the way you treat your patients.

This is really important for you to understand because people will be attracted to you. You may not be for everybody out there but you are for the right people. People will be attracted to you once they understand you, who you are, your specific passions, your talents, and your values.

It is so vital that your values are integrated throughout your business and come through all the ways that you talk - all your business planning and marketing materials, the Facebook and social media posts or ads you create, your YouTube videos - because you’re not going to exclusively talk about your skill set. You’re going to talk about the things that give you a sparkle in your eyes, that make your face shine, and that show your passion. Remember your experiences because your experiences are unique to you and are likely what brought you into this profession.

3. Know Your Ideal Client

Who is your ideal client or patient? What is it about that person that is getting drawn to you? Go beyond the obvious of age, gender, and education. Recognize their psychographics, understand them from an emotional point of view. Who do you naturally attract? What are their experiences? What are their passions? What are their values?

Are they similar to you? Often we are our own ideal clients. I know of health concerns I’ve gone through, and realize I’ve definitely attracted more of that type of patient. It might be the same for you.

4. Play Into Your Strengths

What specifically do you really feel passionate about helping people with? What is the thing that you get excited about and that makes you want to dig deeper and do further research on? Sure, you are more than capable of focusing on a wide range of ideas and practices, but think about how you can teach your patients about the thing you’ve a strength in, a passion in; more importantly how you can reach out and teach them in a way that makes sense for their own needs, using the language that they use, talking about their problems in the same way that they would, and ways of thinking they can understand.

Why? So that when you’re promoting your business and creating your marketing materials you’re using the same language that they use and showing an understanding of their emotion.

So these are the four things I’d like you to consider when you’re creating the foundation for your business. Even if you’ve been in business, go back and really look at this, because things change, your experiences have changed and your professionalism has changed. Whether you’re brand new to business or if you’ve been in practice for a while, this is something that we should always be looking back on, because this helps you create a solid foundation - the type that won’t let your business fall down the moment there’s a shift in your world.
